Heat wave hits the Yakima Valley

YAKIMA, Wash. - A heat advisory is in effect for the Yakima Valley until Sunday night.

According The weather is heating up. With temperatures expected to get into the triple digits this weekend, road work around the valley will be impacted.

According to the Department of Transportation, work on the new Yakima River Bridge is going to start earlier in the day to keep workers out of the heat.

The DOT is even going to cut some of their workers shifts from ten hours to eight hours a day and making sure everyone stays hydrated.

growers in the valley are also taking precautions this weekend to make sure their workers are safe.

in order to keep workers out of the heat, growers say the work day is going to start earlier.

workers will begin around five in the morning, and be out of the sun by noon.

growers say they are advising their workers to wear lighter clothing with long sleeves and a hat.

they're also making sure workers have plenty of water to drink.

one grower in harrah is simply giving his workers the weekend off.
