Depression May Have Played Role in Murder-Suicide

YAKIMA, Wa -  Friends and neighbors who have spoken to KNDO say they are still in shock. Some have said that they think Chris Colepaugh was struggling with depression.  One of Colepaugh's friends tell us that he spoke to him this week and did not see any warning signs.

KNDO spoke with mental health therapist Ron Gengler about how to identify depression.  He says mood change is the first thing to look for.  Is the person becoming withdrawn, isolating themselves?  And are they losing interest in doing activities that they normally do.  Gengler says to take the initiative to talk about depression, or even suicide with that person, don't wait.

If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, you can call the Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health Open Crisis line.  The number is 575-4200.
