KENNEWICK, Wash. - According to Kennewick Police a man was going about 100 miles an hour down Kennewick Ave. 25-year-old Travis Overstreet was trying to get away from officers last night.
Police stopped chasing him for fear someone would get hurt but soon spotted him near John Day Park in Kennewick.
He tried to hide but after a short chase on foot K-9 units tracked him down. Police said high speed chases pose an extreme danger to both them and the public.
Cpl. Bryan Weatherbee is with the Kennewick Police Department. He said, "That's one of the most dangerous things an officer can do because your in a car, you don't know what the other car is going to do. They don't expect cars to be going that fast, so it's dangerous for the public as well."
Police said Overstreet's blood alcohol was twice the legal limit. He was booked into jail for driving under the influence, reckless driving, and other related offenses.
