Local Teenager Gets Shot at Hometown Victory in Lighter than Lights boat
KENNEWICK, Wash - Lighter than Lights rookie driver Aaron Stephens is looking to take full advantage of hydroplane weekend. Not only will he get more experience in the cockpit, but he also wants to make sure fans in the Tri-cities understand how happy the drivers are to be here.
But after talking with Aaron for awhile and hearing the way he talks about his future, happy is an understatement.
This local guy grew up a self-proclaimed "boat-head." And it's not just a clever name; the 19 year old has been coming to every single boat race on the Columbia since he was five years old.
And for Aaron, driving the lighter than light is just the beginning of what he hopes is going to be a long career. According to Aaron, "This is where all the unlimited drivers started out and you just have to work your way up."
Eventually Aaron would love to accomplish his ultimate goal of competing for the Atomic Cup in front of his hometown crowd. The humble young man also added that for him, driving in the Follies this weekend is a "big dream come true."
