State Supreme Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban

The Washington Supreme Court has ruled against gay marriage, upholding the state Defense of Marriage law.

Two lower courts have ruled that Washington's Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.

Washington's 1998 Defense of Marriage Act defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Currently, Massachusetts is the only state to allow homosexual couples to wed. Forty-five states ban gay marriage.
