U7 FormulaBoats.com II is probably done for the weekend

TRI-CITIES, Wash. - The U7 FormulaBoats.com II boat broke a prop and tore up the bottom Saturday at Atomic Cup in Tri-Cities.  Driver Mike Allen is the National leader in points and was obviously dissappointed.

Allen hit a rough spot on the water and took some air.  "We landed right on the prop," said U-7 driver Mike Allen.  "It snapped."  It also tore up the gear box and some other parts, putting the National Points leader on the beach for the rest of the weekend.  U-7 is done for the weekend.

In looking at the boat, you can see where the prop literally sheared one of the blades right in half.  It looks like a clean cut - amazing that the impact on water can do something like that.

"Once that happens," Allen said; "it's over.  Your just try to shut the boat down as fast as you can to try to stop any further damage."

Allen was trying to be optimistic.  "We'll work on it overnight and see what we can do," said Allen.  The crew wasn't as enthusaistic.  When we asked if they'd be able to put the U-7 back together, one of the crew members said "We're focusing on Mike's boat (Mike Weber's U-7, the other FormulaBoats.com boat) now."
