Used Car Pilot Program
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Sometimes buying a used car can be a scary experience. You think you make a great find, but your new purchase turns out to be a lemon. Now a few local dealerships have a solution.
Finding a reliable set of wheels, you can afford, has almost become an essential part of life. There's a lot to mull over. A dealership can be your best shot at quality used car, but every dealer has their own policy.
Tri-City Motor Sales offers a one year warranty on cars built from 1999 to 2002, and a six year warranty for cars 2003 or newer.
"We want our customers to be satisfied. We want 'em to walk out the door knowing they're protected whether it be a year or 80,000 miles we want them protected," said Kim Childers, Tri-City Motor Sales.
It makes for good peace of mind, but the contract is final.
That's why Lithia Motor Company is testing a new program at Lithia Dodge, Lithia Ford, and the Kennewick Honda dealership.
Lithia owns 97 dealerships nationwide, and wants to see if its idea will work here in the Tri-Cities.
"It's just a way to make people feel at ease when they're buying a used vehicle," said Jim Richardson, Lithia Dodge General Manager.
Each car shows you the average price other people in the Tri-Cities are paying.
If anything brakes within 60 days, they'll fix it.
And if you buy the car and decide you don't want it anymore, you can take it back within three days, no questions asked.
The program started last week, but customers are already catching on.
"It makes the buying experience a little easier because you don't have to shop around as much and you feel like you're getting a fair price," said customer Jim Hodge.
Lithia dealers said if others customers are as happy about the program, they plan to implement the offer nationwide.
Only three cities across the country are running this program: Abilene, Texas; Reno, Nevada; and the Tri-Cities.
A Lithia spokesman said they picked the Tri-Cities because this area is one of their strongest dealerships.
