Policing Hydro Races

Kennewick, Wash. - Thousands of people flocked to the Tri-Cities to watch this weekend's hydro races. Most behaved themselves, but some had Kennewick police working overtime.

A report from Washington State Patrol said in past three days troopers pulled over 1,800 people, and wrote 1,168 tickets.

Now race watchers may have seen police patrolling the park as well. Officers said conditions were about average for the races. Police wrote up 53 citations. Most for people drinking beer outside the Beer Gardens.

Now while Troopers and officers kept busy with hydros. Four people in Kennewick got their cars broken into. Police said that's not an usually high amount, but that didn't ease car owners concerns.

"I was pretty mad and pretty expensive, ya know, therer's no power windows on this, so its gets a little more expensive to fix," said Dave Schlotthauer.

Schlotthauer said the prowlers didn't steal anything, but it will cost him nearly $400 to fix the windows he said someone smashed in with a rock.
