UNION GAP, Wash. - The City of Union Gap has a new police chief.
Robert Almeida was officially sworn in on Monday morning in Union Gap.
Almeida was born and raised in Yakima and has been a police officer with the Union Gap Police Department for about 19 years.
Almeida will do his best to serve his community and work closely with the Yakima Police Department to continue to fight crime, he said.
"We work very well and have been working with the Yakima Police Department," he said. "We're very involved and Yakima is with us and I believe we can maintain the same level of service if not better."
