Pear Harvest will be Later this Year

YAKIMA, Wa -  The hot weather is pushing back the pear harvest until mid-August at the earliest.

A grower from Wapato tells KNDO that he estimates the harvest will start some time between the 10th and 14th.

The hot temps have slowed down the ripening of the pears.

He also says the need for farm workers is greater than it has been in the past.

He expects a very nice crop this year, but says some growers in Wenatchee and the Tri-Cities  suffered significant weather damage.
