Rescue efforts are underway for a family stranded on an island in the middle of the Yakima river.
Yakima sheriffs say a father and three children are stranded on an island just below the state route 24 bridge. Deputies are not certain if the family was floating or swimming in the river.
The mother was able to reach the river bank and has made it to safety. A search and rescue boat will be used to get the family off the island.
Sheriffs deputies say the father and kids are showing signs of getting cold. Contact has been made with the family. We will have an update as soon as we have more information.
