ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington football team begins practice this Friday. The Wildcats open their season at home against North Dakota on Sept. 1st.
This fall will be CWU's first year in the North Central Conference (NCC). Last season the Wildcats (8-2, 6-0) finished first in the Great Northwest American Conference (GNAC).
Central moved to the NCC along with former GNAC rival Western Washington.
Both Central and Western will remain in the GNAC in all other sports.
The NCC, founded in 1921, currently has seven members: Augustana (S.D.), Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State Mankato, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, St. Cloud State (Minn.) and South Dakota. During the past three years, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Northern Colorado have left the NCC to move up to NCAA Division I.
