YAKIMA, Wash. - Supporters of Senator Maria Cantwell gathered in Yakima Tuesday, partly to thank her for voting against a tax package. The package could have drastically cut wages for tip-earning workers across the state.
Cantwell says she believes the package was an attempt to tack bad legislation onto good legislation, to get it passed. The good legislation she's referring to is an extension of the sales tax deduction for Washington state residents. She says she's confident will pass next session.
"That would give consumers more certainty that they'll get that deduction. Who knows what they might buy, which could help our economy. I think that's a good stimulus in getting it done. The sooner, the better." says Cantwell.
