Congressman Hastings Says Feasibility Study Crucial to Black Rock Reservoir
YAKIMA, Wa - Congressman Doc Hastings says making sure they get enough money for a feasibility study is pivotal to the Black Rock Reservoir.
This year they will need an additional three and a half million dollars to continue the study.
Doc Hastings was a the keynote speaker today at the Salmon Roundtable Discussion at the SunDome. The event was put together by the Yakima Basin Storage Alliance. Hastings says the study needs to be "rock solid" in order to survive all the politics in Washington, DC.
"It will no doubt come under legal challenge from groups that are hostile to water storage projects and fail to see the point for additional water in this basin," says Hastings, "In many cases, these special interest groups are not from here."
Congressman Hastings says the 2008 election year will be crucial for the Block Rock Reservoir Proposal. That's when the feasibility study is expected to be complete.
