New Mall Planned for Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wash.- Owners of land near Southridge High School are in the preliminary design stages for a facility that could have several uses.
The new company, Southridge Village L.L.C., wants to bring in an outdoor style mall similar to Seattle's University Village.
Kennewick officials say the new development between Southridge High school and State Route 395 is currently in the design stage.
Preliminary plans have a shopping mall, housing, KGH facilities and possibly theaters on the site.
With more than 2,000 new houses planned near Southridge in the next few years, they say it's a prime location for new development.
Right now, they're firming up tenants to gauge how big the development should be.
"They're very aggressively pursuing their development plans, and I would expect to see something happening, you know, within a year or so," said Ken Nelson with the City of Kennewick.
He said plans still need to be approved before groundbreaking.
Construction will most likely be done in stages; the first phase is estimated to take about 18 months.
The full project should take three to four years depending on tenant demand.
