Parents Face Challenging School Shopping Lists

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - Back to school time brings a challenging assignment for many parents: school supply shopping.

School districts differ in policy.  Pasco does not allow required lists, Kennewick leaves it up to individual teachers, and Richland allows schools to prepare mandatory supply lists.

Some of those lists can be very specific and challenging for parents.  Badger Mountain, for example, requires parents to supply a 26 item list for fifth graders.  Other schools are specific in requiring certain brand names such as Dixon Ticonderoga pencils and Elmer's glue.

A mock shopping spree using the Badger Mountain 5th grade list totalled $85.98.
