KENNEWICK, Wash. - Governor Chris Gregoire has declared a state of emergency throughout Washington because of the continuing wildfire threat in the state.
The declaration allows state agencies, including the Washington National Guard, to make expenditures and use their resources to assist local agencies in battling the series of fires currently burning across the state.
Earlier today, Gregoire took a helicopter tour of the Tripod complex fire in north-central Washington, the largest fire currently burning in Washington at more than 121-thousand acres. During the flight, the governor saw heavy thick smoke and towering flames in the area between Winthrop and Conconully.
The Army Blackhawk helicopter landed at the Conconully incident command center just after 11 a-m for a briefing with fire camp officials and the Department of Natural Resources.
