Granger Police Capture Escaped Inmate

GRANGER, Wa -  An escaped inmate is back behind bars tonight.  A tipster called Granger Police at about one this afternoon, saying 22-year-old Elvin Gomez was in the house at 306 Sunnyside Avenue, just a few blocks from the police department.

Law enforcement from Zillah, The Yakima Sheriff's Office and State Patrol were called in to assist.

The house was surrounded and the street blocked off.  Law enforcement then entered the house with guns drawn.

Granger Police Chief Robert Perales says they found Gomez hiding in the crawl space underneath the house.

"It was really intense, pretty dark down there.  We only had a couple of flashlights between entry team.  We're happy we caught him." the inmate -- Elvin Gomez -- will be charged with escape and theft -- for stealing the handcuffs he was wearing when he escaped.

Gomez is already facing rape and unrelated assault charges.  He escaped yesterday afternoon from the back parking lot at the Granger Police Department.
