YAKIMA, Wash. - A man who witnessed a hit and run crash took the law into his own hands, chasing the suspect down and holding him until police arrived.
It happened Thursday, on Terrace Heights Drive. Jerry Gange says he saw a car speed through an intersection, t-bone another car, then take off.
He followed the car and its driver, 19 year-old Michael Surgeon, to a parking lot near Sarg Hubbard park. Gange says that's where Surgeon got out, and Gange tackled him.
"I thought of my granddaughters." says Gange. "They were hit by a hit and run driver a couple months ago. The oldest one was hurt bad, in fact she just went back into the hospital. She's just having a rough time of it."
Gange says he's 67 years old, the suspect is 19. He says adrenaline was driving him. Surgeon is facing hit and run charges, as well as driving with a suspended license.
