YAKIMA, Wash.,- The Yakima Fire Department said brush fires are more common this summer and they want you to take precaution.
They said last year's winter and spring brought in more snow and rain than normal.
They said there are now more plants and weeds in yards this summer, creating fuel for a potential fire.
Fire Fighter Ty Brown, from the Yakima Fire Department said there are ways to protect your house.
"The best thing they can do is create a green zone around the house; specifically have green grass or some type of fuel-break around their house. They can do creative landscaping with rocks or gravel, said brown."
