Yakima, wash. - Cattle owners looking to have their animals tested for a bacterial disease known as johne's disease, can now do it for free.
According to the Washington State Department of Agriculture, the program is funded through a U.S. Department of Agriculture cooperative agreement.
Johne's disease is a bacterial disease of the intestinal tract.
The organism that causes the disease in animals is found in the feces of infected animals.
The disease, which is incurable and can be fatal, is more common in dairies, but is still a problem in beef herds nationwide.
