NEAR NACHES, Wash. - A fifth-wheel trailer goes up in flames, and the fire spreads to nearby brush and trees.
It happened on Highway 12, 13 miles west of Naches. When firefighters arrived, they began digging fire lines, cutting branches, and spraying down the trailer. A helicopter was called in as well, but wasn't needed.
Trailer owner Cecil Brown stood by watching, as his trailer was destroyed. He and his wife were on their way to Packwood for the weekend.
Brown says, "I looked out my rearview mirror and saw some smoke. I was trying to pull over when another gentleman told me I had a fire. So we unhooked, and tried to get away from it."
Firefighters estimate the fire burned less than half an acre. They say it could have been much worse, but cool overnight temperatures and green brush kept it from spreading.
