Tri City Animal Control Closed DownPosted: Updated:
PASCO, Wash - As of midnight on Thursday, Tri City Animal Control is completely closed down. Animal control's insurance company will not renew their insurance.
The 70 dogs and 50 cats inside the building right now will be cared for, but no new ones will be taken in, said Bruce Young with Tri City Animal Control.
He said they also would not pick up any animals or euthanize any animals because they don't have liability insurance.
Young said it stems from lawsuits brought against animal control and his insurance carrier said the risk is too high because there is no indication the lawsuits will stop.
The Animal Control Authority is made up of the cities of Kennewick, Pasco and Richland. Bruce Young is contracted out to take care of Animal Control.
Young said he is working with three different insurance companies right now, but it could take several days or even more before he can open up.
Until then, you are asked to contact police if you have an issue with a dog bite or dangerous animal.
