Kennewick-Southridge Matchup Will be Personal for Coaches

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - They're former teammates, former roommates, and best friends.  But come Friday night, they want to beat each other badly.

Kennewick faces Southridge at Lampson Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and once again, Lions' coach Bill Templeton will face his old buddy Andy Troxell, now head coach at Southridge.

The two played together at Kennewick in 1987, and always enjoy squaring off, especially when it counts towards the league standings.

"Andy and I have had a long term friendship." said Templeton." I lived at his house right before I got married. We're like brothers.  So yeah we're good buddies. You always want to beat your brother. Both coaches and both teams are going to try to win that ball game."

Family ties abound in the area. Templeton is married to the daughter of Kamiakin Head Coach Craig Beverlin. Furthermore, Kennewick QB Johnny Buckingham's father played for the school and is the current quarterbacks coach as well.

Southridge is 0-2 while Kennewick is 1-1.
