Ducks Win in Fourth Quarter Thriller
EUGENE, Ore - In just over a minute Dennis Dixon led his Oregon Ducks to two fourth quarter touchdowns to put them just one point ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners; that one point was good enough for the win.
The Ducks were down 33 to 20 going into the final minutes of the fourth quarter, after Adrian Peterson high-stepped it into the endzone. But Dennis Dixon found that he had some leg power too, running the ball in from 16 yards out to make the score 27-33. With just under a minute to go Oregon successfully recovered an onside kick just inside Sooner territory. Dixon drove again and aired out a 23 yard pass to Baysinger, the extra point was good, and the Ducks went up 34-33.
A bit of a scare on the next kickoff when Reggie Smith returned a Matt Evenson kickoff for 54 yards. The Oregon defense held tight, keeping Adrian Peterson from running amok and forcing Paul Thompson to throw an incomplete pass. Then with just one tick left on the clock, Oklahoma lines up for a field goal, and Garrett Hartley's kick was blocked! Ducks would win it in dramatic fashion in front of a home crowd at Autzen stadium that quickly rushed the field after the blocked kick.
Oregon has a bye next weekend, and will play Arizona State on the 30th.
