KENNEWICK, Wash. - The primary race decided the Benton County Superior Court Clerk race Tuesday night and eliminated two candidates for the coroner position.
The crowd at the auditor's office in Benton County erupted into applause for clerk candidate Josie Delvin as soon as the preliminary results were handed out just after 8 o'clock.
Preliminarily, Delvin leads the race with over 66 percent of the vote.
The ballots for Benton and Franklin Counties were tallied throughout the day, and at 8 o'clock the auditor starting printing the first results.
Delvin said she was surprised by her opponents radio ads questioning her qualifications and said she would like to thank the voters for supporting her throughout her election campaign.
Election results are not official until they're certified. The beginning of October is when the Secretary of State makes the returns official.
