Neighbors Concerned About Safety of Ahtanum Road in Wylie City
YAKIMA, Wa - Kimberly Coffey point to where three horses were killed in a car accident early this morning right next to her house.
"Two were lying there and then the vehicle drug another horse up here to this spot," she says.
At first, she thought her horse had been hit.
"Our horse got out and someone had been injured and the horse had been injured," she says.
She says accidents Ahtanum Road near where it intersects with Marks Road are becoming commonplace.
"A vehicle had been coming around the corner and had rolled off the embankment," Coffey says.
Kimberly says she's seen several accidents over the past year..
When asked if there are a lot of speeders she says "Definitely."
The driver involved in the accident this morning was not speeding, but Coffey says many other drivers treat Ahtanum Road like a highway.
"Traffic is coming around the corner," she says, "They can't see us and it's hard to see them until they are right there on your tail."
Coffey says this latest accident is a wake up call for everyone. She all the property owners in the area, including herself, need to do a better job fencing in their pastures. But something also needs to be done to make that corner safer.
"Light up the road. Widen it out a little bit, where it's visible," she says.
