Some Neighbors Concerned, But Mayor Says Zillah Lakes is a Good Thing

ZILLAH,Wash. - A new development planned for Zillah will nearly double the city's population, their mayor says that does present some challenges.

But Gary Clark also says he doesn't see a downside to Zillah Lakes.  He says the city could use the extra property tax base, and the tourism the development could bring.

Zillah Lakes will encompass more than 600 homes on 224 acres.  Commercial and retail property will be included too, as well as a 9-hole golf course.  Clark says the city has been preparing for something like this.

"Fortunately, we did a lot of planning before this in case we did get a development. So we're ahead of the game as far as infrastructure. Sewer, water, that type of deal." he says.

Developers are set to break ground in October.  The first phase of Zillah Lakes could be done next year, and sales are already pending on 40 lots.
