National Guard Cuts Eliminate Jobs at the Yakima Training Center
YAKIMA, Wash -- The National Guard Bureau has cut federal funding to the Washington Military Department by 52 percent. For the past twelve years, they have protected Washington National Guard equipment at the Yakima Training Center.
The cuts mean six people in Yakima, and another dozen at Fort Lewis will soon be out of a job.
The cuts will eliminate all of the security forces protecting national guard equipment at the base. The equipment includes weapons systems, such as M1 A1 tanks and armor personnel carries, and repair facilities.
The cuts will not eliminate military police personnel that protect the Yakima Training Center as a whole -- just the staff that protect the national guard's equipment.
