Sunnyside School District Making Big Push to Improve WASL Math Scores
Sunnyside, WA - The Sunnyside School District is making a big push this year to improve math performance on the WASL.
The percentage of students who passed the math section in that district was much lower than the state average.
This year's sophomores made modest gains over last year's, but still, little more than 25% passed.
Looking at all seven grade levels who took the WASL, no more than 39% passed the math section.
Now school administrators are trying an approach they used to help improve reading scores on the WASL. Teachers are going to start teaching math concepts -- not just in math classes -- but also in science and social studies classes.
