Umatilla Murder Investigation Comes to Kennewick

Posted: Updated:

UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. - Kennewick Police are now involved in the Umatilla murder investigation. Recently, detectives from Umatilla County learned a home in Kennewick may point police to the person who killed 32-year-old Ruperto Zuniga Torres.

The body of Torres was found just off Highway 730.. Near the entrance to the McNary Wildlife Refuge early Saturday morning. Authorities said Torres died of multiple gunshot wounds.

A tip prompted detectives to search a Kennewick home for answers. But Umatilla authorities aren't just coming in and ignoring local police's jurisdiction.

"Detectives from the Umatilla County Major Crime Team are working together with detectives from the Kennewick Police Department as this investigation goes into it's fourth day," said Christopher Brauer, Umatilla County District Attorney.

Detectives report they seized shoes and other items of clothing, but right now authorities are not saying how those items help the case or which home in Kennewick they searched.

Another interesting note in this case, a gun shot wound patient at Good Shepherd Hospital who authorities think was shot near the murder seen was released from the Hospital Tuesday. Detectives consider the man a witness and intend to keep a close eye on him.
