YAKIMA, Wash. - Ronald and Sandy Foerste crossed the mountains to move into a Phase Two home at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.
After living in Maple Valley for 30 years, they started to look elsewhere. Ronald Foerste says, "Of course, the traffic is just atrocious on (the west side), so there's a real plus to being over here."
And while home prices at Apple Tree Resort run higher than many homes in the Yakima area, home prices start at about $375,000. Foerste says you get a lot more for your money in Yakima.
"We looked at several developments on the west side, similar to this development, and they didn't measure up in quality, and of course in price." says Foerste.
Ed Ulmer feels the same way. He's lived in a Phase Two home for about a year. He says he and his wife shopped around for quite a while, but they always had their eye on Apple Tree.
General Manager Jon Kinloch says the Apple Tree Development is something the city can be proud of, with amenities you won't find many other places in the area. Foerste agrees.
Now that he and his wife were retired, they can appreciate everything Apple Tree offers. "They're putting in a pool, sports center at the end of the street. It's just a good place to be."
