According to the Colville Legend, the tribes and their horse chasers have been riding their horses up and down the steep hillsides that are within the Colville reservation.
The Suicide Race as it is now known today, is a world famous race that has been going on at the Colville Reservation since 1935. Since the start of it, there have been several safety requirements added to the race to protect riders and horses alike.
When it comes to the Suicide Race, it is often a family tradition. Not just for riders but also for the horses.
The Suicide Race is just part of a weeklong event known as the Omak Stampede. This stampede is the largest public event in North-Central Washington with stick games, dancing, rodeo, drumming and a grand parade.
