CONNELL, Wash - With just four seconds left in last Friday's game against Royal, Eagles' kicker Raul Farias stepped onto the field. A good kick would get a win for Connell, but a shank would put Royal on top. Farias says, "It felt like a state championship game, number one versus number two."
With the pressure mounting, Raul took his three steps back, three steps over, and readied for the snap. In less than two seconds the ball was sailing off of Farias' left foot and splitting the uprights. The Eagles were victorious, retaining their undefeated record, and climbing to the number one spot in the state's 1-A polls.
"He can kick a 63 yarder. He did it in practice one day, he just doesn't remember, he's humble about it," says Farias' coach Wayne Riner, adding "Raul is money!"
Hopefully Raul will remember to bring his golden foot Friday as the Eagles face the Riverview Panthers.
