PASCO, Wash. - A tight race for a Franklin County P.U.D. Commissioner position is forcing auditors to recount the ballots.
Any time a race can be decided within less than half of one percent, Franklin County Auditors must recount the ballots.
Only one vote separates two of the candidates in P.U.D. Commissioner District 3, Position 3 race. That definitely qualifies.
Del Lathim and Ricardo Espinoza are contending for the runner up spot on the November ballot. Lathim with 225 votes and Espinoza 226.
Although candidates may be anxious about the outcome, auditors said they don't feel the pressure.
"We just take the ballots from that district, poll those ballots and we'll have a group of people that are looking at each one of them. We're going to do a count and the results of the count are the results of the count," said Zona Lenhart, Franklin County Auditor.
Franklin County elections workers will recount the ballots on Thursday at 2 p.m., at the Franklin County Annex on 3rd and Clark in Pasco. It's open to the public.
