Feds rule hop fire accidental

YAKIMA, Wash. -   Spontaneous combustion is to blame for a fire that destroyed a hops warehouse in Yakima on Monday.

According to ATF Investigators, the fire started in the south east corner of the S.S. Steiner Warehouse.

The fire started in a bale of hops and spread throughout the warehouse causing more than $5 million in damage, investigators said.

Spontaneous combustion is always concern when you're dealing with hops, said investigators.

"It's difficult to prevent, it is," said Gary Mayfield, ATF Investigator. "We will try to educate the public further on proper storage, but I don't believe anything un-proper was done here in terms of storage."
