YAKIMA, Wash -- Yakima Fire District No. 5 has been chosen to receive a grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The $94,000 grant will be used to buy new equipment.
220 volunteer firefighters will receive new breathing masks, fire shelters and shoulder harnesses.
Deputy Chief Allen Walker said this equipment is vital to firefighters.
"Its a huge benefit for a fire fighter as far as direction of safety."
The new equipment will replace damaged and older, out of date masks and shelters.
