Washington State Trooper Jim Saunders was killed seven years ago
PASCO, Wash. - Washington State Trooper Jim Saunders was killed in the line of duty when he tried to pull a man over going over the Blue Bridge in Pasco.
He was shot by the driver, Nicholas Vasquez. Saunders died at the scene.
It happened near 28th and Lewis Street in Pasco seven years ago Saturday.
Troopers said his death was tough on everyone, both members law enforcement and people of the community. His murder made national headlines.
Trooper David Wilbur said, "It's a rarity that we lose one of a troopers. It's a dangerous profession and bad things happen as a result of people making poor choices."
Saunders was only 31. He left behind a wife and daughter and an unborn son. There is a memorial where the shooting took place. Saturday night they are holding a special memorial service for him. It starts around 9 o'clock at 28th and Lewis Street in Pasco.
