PASCO, Wash. - Police from across the state remembered the deadly shooting of Washington State Trooper Jim Saunders while he was on a routine traffic stop.
There was a memorial held last night for the 7th anniversary of the tragedy. Saunders was gunned down almost immediately by Nicholas Vasquez as he was walking up to the car.
Today local police said the threat of being killed is always a reality especially when you least expect it.
Pasco Police Officer Tom Ninemire said, "A lot of us have been here many years, over 10 or 15 years and a lot of us love this profession. The dangers and risks come with it."
According to National Statistics more than 1,600 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty during the past 10 years.
