PASCO, Wash. - If you're a parent with custody of your child there are some steps you can take to make sure visits with the other parent go smoothly.
It's important to have things like court documents in order so if a parent without custody tries to take off police can be contacted with the agreement that's in place.
Seven-year-old Heidi Rus has now been missing for nine days. Her mother, Michelle Finley, is suspected of taking off with the girl during a supervised visit in Pendleton.
The girl's father said he's worried for his daughter's well being because Finley has a history of mental illness.
He said he thought he was taking all of the necessary precautions before his little girl went missing.
"It's tough when it's your own child. I didn't know in Washington alone there are 1,700 missing children at any given time," said Tom Rus.
As Rus waits for his daughter to come back home, he encourages parents to talk to their children if they're in similar situations.
