New Minimum Wage Could Hurt Businesses

PASCO, Wash.- Local business leaders aren't happy with the state's new minimum wage.

On January 1, 2007 the wage will go up to $7.93 from $7.63.

The rise is part of Initiative 688, allowing it to go up with inflation.

Small businesses though, said it will hurt their bottom line.

Many say it will cause them to have to raise prices or lay off employees.

The wage has risen more than 50% since I-688 was approved in 1998.
