New Hydro Weekend Could be in the Works in Richland

RICHLAND, Wash.- In September, The Maurer Group cut its ties with Water Follies, but now they are trying to start a new hydro weekend of their own.

The Maurer Group is working with the City of Richland to bring a race to Howard Amon Park on May 19 and 20, 2007.

Their proposal would bring the Unlimited Light and Lighter than Light boats to the Columbia River for the weekend.

Plans are still in the preliminary stages, but the City of Richland said about 5,000 people are expected to attend if they get the race, and it's all for a good cause.

"They also wanted it to, to help out the community by having it as a fundraiser for the local high schools. They're willing to donate a dollar of each ticket to the fundraising efforts for those schools," said Cindy Johnson, Assistant City Manager for the City of Richland

Though it is just in the preliminary stages, officials say things are moving quickly because it's only seven months away.

A decision is expected after The Maurer Group presents a final proposal to the City at the parks department meeting November 9.
