Toppenish Faces Budget Crunch

TOPPENISH, Wash -- The City of Toppenish may be forced to make major cuts to meet its budget next year. Right now, the city council is faced with a $700,000 budget deficit for 2007.

They may be forced to eliminate the Parks and Recreation Department and lay off several police officers.

The council met Thursday night with concerned citizens to discuss options. Most say they are against the cuts -- but also against raising taxes.
