YAKIMA, Wash -- Washington's Latino residents are targets for a variety of scams.
Washington Attorney General Rob Mckenna and other community leaders met today to address the problem. Participants of the Latino Consumer Education Conference are developing specific recommendations for the Attorney General.
There are a number of reasons why Latinos are potential victims.
"Many of them are new to our country," said McKenna. "They may not speak as much english, they may not know what there rights are and they become target for con artist who are seeking them out."
The most common scams are predatory loans, wire transfer fraud and notary publics representing themselves as lawyers.
