Scam artists are attacking Washington hotels across the state. The scam artists pose as booking agents for large travel groups.
The scammer calls the hotel and asks to make a reservation for a large number of rooms. He then sends a check and tells the hotel that it is for all the traveling expenses. The hotel cashes the check and the scam artist then says he wants a smaller reservation. He asks the hotel to send him a reimbursement check. With the check sent, the hotel then finds out that the initial check was a fraud.
Hotels in Spokane have already been hit and the loss can be in the thousands of dollars. The Better Business Bureau says hotels should be wary of any suspicious foreign checks.
