Senator Maria Cantwell Speaks About Energy Independence In Pasco

Pasco, WA - Senator Maria Cantwell kicked her campaign into high gear Wednesday, as she began her tour across Washington with her "Checklist for Change" rally.

The focus on Wednesday was energy independence. She spoke in Spokane, Pullman, Pasco and Yakima.

At the Pipefitters hall in Pasco, she said Washington has the ability to drive down gas prices by using biodiesel.

In recent months, she questioned the Federal Trade Commission about why gas prices are so high in Eastern Washington.  The response from the FTC was that it isn't the local gas stations raising prices, but rather the refineries supplying to eastern Washington.

"If you can really have alternative fuels in the marketplace you can drive down the cost and you can provide some competition to those gas stations," Cantwell said.

The Democratic incumbent is running against Republican, Mike McGavick in the November 7 th election.
