GRANT COUNTY, Wash. - A fugitive wanted by the Department of Corrections for escaping from community custody was spotted near Soap Lake.  But after a police chase, he started firing at officers.

Police received a tip that Jeremy David Haffner of Federal Way, Washington was seen driving a gray1988 Pontiac 6000 in the Soap Lake area of Grant County.

Officers say Haffner led them on a 30 minute chase and then started firing at them after he pulled over this morning.  Officers fired back and hit Haffner in the head.

The suspect was taken to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland with a non-life threatening bullet wound to his head.

No officers were hurt in the exchange of gun fire.  However, Grant County Sheriffs, Washington State Patrol Troopers, and Soap Lake Police officers involved are not on administrative leave while the situation is investigated.
