Lightening Causes Power Outage

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. - Lightening knocked out power to TV and radio antennas for about 8 hours Tuesday.

It started about 5:30 a.m. Benton P.U.D. workers braved the heavy winds and rain for 8 hours before they finally fixed the problem in the afternoon.

The outage impaired 20 different communication companies including Nextel, Motorola, KONA, and our station.

Benton P.U.D. representatives said they take these outages very seriously.

"As with any outage we send out a crew immediately and we'll stick with it until that outage is taken care of," said Karen Miller, Benton P.U.D.

Some businesses used generators to keep power during the outage. No other cities or districts reported a loss of power Tuesday from the storm.
