Republicans Lose Control of the House

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Tuesday's election results were bitter sweet for local republicans.

Representative Doc Hastings looks to retain his seat, but many of his colleagues aren't coming back.

Republican leaders gathered at the Kennewick Red Lion. Many watched as republican representatives slowly slipped out of power.

Some said the shift shows how strongly our country feels about the need for change in Iraq. And foreshadows public opinion for the 2008 presidential election.

"There was some really good representatives that lost their seats. I look at Santorum (PA) and others, who were genuinely good people as well as great legislatures," said Sean McGrath, Benton County Republican Party Chairman.

Although McGrath said republicans losing control of the house is a challenging defeat. He said he's still optimistic for the 2008 presidential election.
