Parents Will Help in the Planning for East Yakima Early Learning Initiative
YAKIMA, Wa - ESD 105 is recruiting parents from East Yakima to help them gather information from parents with young children who live in that area.
The East Yakima Early Learning Initiative wants to survey 350 parents with children five years old or younger.
These parents will have the chance to shape the programming for the Early Learning Center that's planned for the area.
Twelve parents who live in East Yakima will actually assist AmeriCorps volunteers with surveying.
"It goes with our whole philosophy of the project that we want to involve the parents from the very beginning," says Sylvia Severn, Executive Director of the East Yakima Early Childhood Learning Initiative, "We want to involve parents from East Yakima and we want their voice in our needs assessment. The only way to do that is to go ask."
Severn says the surveying will start next Tuesday and last for a week.
The information they gather will be used in the plans that will be submitted to the Gates Foundation next year.
